Howling noise from vents 200 1987

my '87 240Dl makes a howling noise occasionaly from the air vents. have any of you experienced this?? how can i get rid of it..?? thanks alot

I also have that same type noise from my '89 740T and my '94 850T. Air moving over th cowel sounds reasonable but how came the problem be remedied?

Does it sound like a party horn (seriously)? My 93 does that occasionally. I posted a comment here a while back and someone said it's due to the air rushing over the cowl and causing the flapper in the vent system to act like a reed, vibrate, thus making the sound. I've noticed that either I have to be going over 70 mph for it to happen, or the wind has to be pretty strong. Also, I've noticed it when going around semi trucks. I can mitigate the sound by fiddling with the vent buttons.

Can you associate this noise with the heater fan? Those things don't last forever. Yours may be on the way out. Replacement is not always pleasant, but has been done by many of us.
