carmel colored goo in hose leading to AMM??? 200

I was working on another fix yesterday when I had to remove AMM and accompaning hoses for access.
When I pulled apart the hoses I noticed to my horror a brownish carmel colored foaming ooze. (like the description?)
It looks like it is coming from the hose which comes off the flame trap (top) and goes to the air tube coming off the throttle body housing.

I replaced the flame trap about a month ago. It was dirty but not totally clogged. What would be causing this BCCFO to be pushed into a place it shouldn't be.
I also have an oil leak (small) that I was told was the rear main seal.
Is this related?
It seems to me to be a pressure problem and I am wondering what I can do to relieve this and hopefully not have to replace the rear main seal.
Any advice or thoughts would be great.

Thanks
Chapster out

From what I understand, it's oil mixed with water vapor. The peanut-sauce-looking stuff had clogged the hose between the oil cap and the intake manifold on my girlfriend's 145. My mechanic simply told her to take the thing out on the freeway and bomb down to Portland at 90 MPH, so we DID and it worked.

did you check the vacumme nipple on the intake that connects to the small hose on the flame trap? Mine was pluged solid,I had to take it off and clean it with a small wire, I just got the car and that stuff was baked in, rear seal leaking sounds like a symptom not a cause.

I had the same problem on my '85 245GL.I had the sh*t in my AMM,I was told it was "blow by".I cleaned the throttle body, flame trap and all hoses but it showed up again.I guess it's normal on high milage 240s.
Carb cleaner works good to get the BCCFO out.
