Transmission mount good or bad? 200

I just had the rear seal on the tranmission replaced. Of course the tranny mount has been getting routinely soaked with transmission fluid for a while (6 months or more). Now I notice lot of vibration when I hit 50 MPH. How can I tell the mount is bad? When I pushed the tranmission around from under the car the transmission moves up an down quite a bit. The rubber in the mount feels soft. Is all this this normal? Or is the mount bad?

Having been doused in trans fluid, it will be bad soon if it isn't bad yet.

Yup, thats a bad mount

If you are going to replace the mount, also consider replacing the shifter bushings. They're made of rubber too.

The bushings are cheap. I think fcpgroton has them for buck or so. The ones they sell are the poly ones. One tip, the poly bushing are a little harder to install since they are stiff, but I'm sure they out last the rubber ones. The rubber ones are easier to intall.

To change them. Put the car on stands. Crawl under to find the shift linkage. It goes from the shifter to the trany, you'll see it. You should find play in it if there are worn. I think there are three bushings (or maybe two), but get an extra one in case. One of the links is held in place with a e clips (don't drop it), the other ones with a 13mm and 14mm bolts. Not too hard to remove, just hard to press the poly bushings. Last I did it I removed the shifter from the car and did it on the bench.

Were I in your shoes I would replace that sucker ASAP. When the trans mount goes bad, it takes the front motor mounts with it. Have a check up there. Put your hand under the oil filter and see if you bump into the motor mount. If yes, it's shot, too.

Good Luck,

Bob
