Manual trans and too much free time on my hands 200 1987

Ok, so heres the thing. They got a 86 244 in the yard today and it had the M46 manual trans in it. I got nothing better to do, so I get my friend and tools and go to town on it. I grab the trans, pedals for the clutch, brake and everything I think it takes to do the swap. Trans crossmember, clutch cable, and thats about it. It took a little while to get it all out as we were carefull not to damage anything. And after getting this stuff. I came to realize I dont want the headache of putting it all in my car that has a auto trans in it, this is my only ride and cant afford to have something negative happen to it during the swap. So I've decided to sell it as a kit and use the money to help Caroline with her needs. Is there anything I may of forgot to grab? And, about how much should I expect to get for something like this?
Once again thanx for any and all input
Patrick

Dude, it's a pretty easy weekend swap. Put it in, you'll be so very, very, very glad you did!! You know the old commercial, "Try it, you'll like it!" This has been the best single mod/upgrade (downgrade???) I have done to our Brick. Better accelleration, better gas mileage (handy now that Plus is $1.68/gl), more fun!!!

As far as parts, you also need the wiring for the 4th gear switch and backup light switch, and the OD relay from the doner as relays are different between autos and manuals. I would also check out the pressure plate and throwout bearing and if in serviceable condition I'd go ahead and use them although if the throwout bearing is cheap go ahead and replace it. I got luck on mine as the doner had just had a clutch job and all associated parts were like brand new.

In my case the 85 M46 crossmember was identical to my 83 AW71 crossmember so I now have a spare! Also, the speedo cable on the manual jobbers is a tad longer but you can re-route your original to come up with enough slack for it to reach.

But if you stay to one side of the 85/86 split, the speedo cable is a non-issue. 86+ cars have the electronic speedo. Therefore if you were to get an earlier one, you'd need to plug up the speedo cable hole....

You're correct, I didn't pay any attention to the year when I read the post!

I didn't see "driveshaft" on that list. The auto and manual driveshafts are different and it's really needed to do the job. Get the whole thing, don't take it apart. And to make parts-swaps more fun, the M46 and M47 shafts are different too, as the M47 has got this rubber thing in lieu of a proper universal joint.
If the car had cruise, make sure you grabbed the brake and clutch pedal switches. If they'll let you take it, you should get the flywheel as well- that's needed for the swap, but the yard might not let you take apart the engine? You should ask. Did you get the interior boot from the shifter and the OD wiring?
While you're in there, maybe you can sneak out with the 007 air mass meter in your pocket... well be honest, maybe you can get it for a great price. Worth taking, fits any 85-88 car.

Pat:
Check the "completed" items in eBay for 'Volvo transmission'. This will give you some idea of the value.
buena suerte,
