Manual trans and too much free time on my hands 200 1987

Dude, it's a pretty easy weekend swap. Put it in, you'll be so very, very, very glad you did!! You know the old commercial, "Try it, you'll like it!" This has been the best single mod/upgrade (downgrade???) I have done to our Brick. Better accelleration, better gas mileage (handy now that Plus is $1.68/gl), more fun!!!

As far as parts, you also need the wiring for the 4th gear switch and backup light switch, and the OD relay from the doner as relays are different between autos and manuals. I would also check out the pressure plate and throwout bearing and if in serviceable condition I'd go ahead and use them although if the throwout bearing is cheap go ahead and replace it. I got luck on mine as the doner had just had a clutch job and all associated parts were like brand new.

In my case the 85 M46 crossmember was identical to my 83 AW71 crossmember so I now have a spare! Also, the speedo cable on the manual jobbers is a tad longer but you can re-route your original to come up with enough slack for it to reach.
