Struts & shocks recommendation 900 1993

I need to replace struts and shocks on my wife's 940T wagon(120K). Handling is all over the road so anything would be an improvement. What would be the best combination for ride and control ? What's the best place to purchase them? Thanks

Agree that Boge Turbos are the way to go. I was at the same all over the road point (I guess that is not really a point, more of a scatter graph!) and decided when the brick made unscheduled lane changes, it was time. I am very pleased with the results. Don't forget to check the condition of the bellows to avoid duplication of effort down the road. DAMHIK!!

I have Boge Turbo Gas on all 4 corners of my '93 945T. I highly recommend them. To clarify an earlier post: Boge Pro Gas are sport shocks/struts -- they are the stiffest that Boge makes (good handling, rough riding). Boge Turbo Gas are the "compromise" between comfort and handling. (firm ride, but not bone jarring)

I would also highly recommend new springs. I replaced just the shocks and struts on mine, and was very disappointed because I only achieved a slight improvement in ride and handling. I then immediately changed the springs (front and back) and was thrilled with the results. So save yourself the aggrevation of doing it twice, change the springs while you're in there. FYI springs are about $35 each ($140 for all 4) at www.fcpgroton.com -- pretty cheap for the vast improvement you will gain.

I've installed Boge Turbo Gas shocks & struts + IPD sway bars on my '93 940. Like you, I'm a bit disappointed in the degree of improvement. What kind of springs did you install - new stock ones, or some kinda performance spring?

Scan Tech stock springs on the front.
Scan Tech load carrying springs on the back. (mine's a wagon)

Thanks. I plan to add the IPD lower suspension brace this spring, then I'll think about springs...

I run the Boge Turbo gas with the IPD bars. Its a nice set-up, the rear Turbo gas are stiffer than stock, but overall not bad (the car is a little soft anyway). Tried the Bilsteins found them way to stiff in the back on a 940. Good luck.

Much other feedback on BB re: shocks, but regardless, my recommendation is Boge ProGas shocks. (I run Boge TurboGas on my 940, which are too stiff for daily driving - I went for max handling, but in retrospect, the Pros would have been a better all around choice.)
Regarding being "all over the road" - you might also consider an IPD sway bar upgrade. The ride quality isn't compromised, but tracking/accuracy/predictability is greatly improved. Again, check other feedback regarding sway bars.

"Best place to purchase them?" should get you a good variance of replies. If you can do it yourself, Ebay can sometimes be a great place for the parts as far as getting a good price, but definetly "buyer beware"; otherwise there are places like http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo240shocks.htm . One argument for not buying parts from any source that is not going to install them for you, is the warranty on the parts including labor. I have been tempted to even go to Sears simply because I may not A: feel like doing it myself, and B: Sears does have what they freely term as "lifetime warranties". As far as "combinations" and brands, therein also lies an opportunity for opinions from experiences. I went with Bilsteins, and am happy with the firmness and control, but some will swear by Boge, KYB, and others. Do your research; this is a good place to start. Be sure you get the alignment checked.

    D-Squared:

I have been impressed with the KYB struts and shocks on my car. Some people seem to think they are a little stiff, but that is what I like. Monroe or Gabriel would provide a little softer ride.
