"Light Out" bulb comes on--no lights out 200 83

My "light out" bulb comes on sometimes when I turn on my headlights even though I can't detect any lights out-- signal, high beams, brake lights, tail lights back-up lights--nothing. I can't seem to track it down. It never comes on execpt when I turn the headlights on. Any solutions?

    Ken,

That damn light haunted me for a couple of months after I bought my brick a bunch of years ago. It was on when I bought it and I, for the life of me, could not find a defective bulb.

I pulled the instument cluster and removed that perpetual beacon... never did find out what was out. It has not adversely affected my life.

    Mike

I got mine to go out: just reach up behind the instrument cluster and remove the little

bulb for the warning indicator :) Actually, I did manage to get the light to go out by

meticulously cleaning all the connections in the light system...my problem was corrosion

in a rear taillight connection. Then when I was rejuvinating the connections to the

rear hatch on this 245 I found a short in the wire feed for the licence plate

light, so I took a feed off of one of the taillight wires and that stupid warning light was back. Thats

    when I removed the bulb!!

I may be a hack, but I have fun.

In addition to the other posts, if you replaced a bulb on one side and not the other, then the corresponding old bulb on the other side may not draw the same current as the new bulb (tail lights, turn signals, or whatever). The system is usually too sensitive.

you probably have different brands of sealed beams(headlights) on either side; or you have a halogen on one side and a non-halogen on the other.....or you have different models of headlamps--for example: Sylvania halogen on one side, Sylvania extra vision halogen on the other.........what this boils down to is different current draw for the two sides of the headlights, which trips the lamp out sensor and turns on that sometimes very annoying yellow dash light

do all of the lights on the car have either stainless steel or copper ends on them. A volvo mechanic I know told me that if they don't match the indicator light will stay on. I can't get mine to go out either on my 740.

Re: "Light Out" bulb comes on--no lights out 200 83

Basically the 'light out' system works off a balance of current from one

side to the other. An imbalance large enough causes enough of a

difference to turn on the light. Thats why in volvo owners manuals it

says to replace bulbs in pairs. Usually if the bulbs are the same then you

have some corrosion or poor connection somewhere. Then if its not that

then the 'light out' relay itself may be bad.
