plugs 200 88

I'm thinking about putting Bosch plus4 plugs, the ones with four electrodes, in my car. Are they ok?

Re: plugs 200 88

Right now my car has the plugs from a Volvo dealership (Volvo OEM) and they work just fine. When its time to replace, I will just get some standard NGK copper core plugs. No need to spend extra money on the Platinums. Save it for the synthetic oil, that is something that is actually better than conventional.

Re: plugs/ go with Bosch Supers 200 88

I just run Bosch Supers in my Volvos, They are about .98 cents each at Auto palace and work very well in all the 240 and 740 applications i've used them in...... Tom Wasney 240aholic

Re: don't waste your money 200 88

novelty plugs like splitfires and the bosch plus4s do just what they were intended to do: MAKE MONEY FOR THE PEOPLE SELLING THEM!!!! and that is ALL they do. If you were to study ignition system theory, design, and operation, you would soon discover that the so-called "advanced design" of the novelty plugs is nothing more than snake oil and manure.......such ripoffs have been around since the '60s......the best spark plug you can get is one of the normal electrode configuration--one center electrode, one ground electrode--of the correct heat range, gapped correctly, and installed correctly to the proper torque......and you can buy them for less than $2 each, and they will last for 20,000 miles or longer.......BUT, if you like novelty items, go ahead and buy your pet rock type plugs.......and continue to be living proof of the old adage: "A fool and his money are soon parted".........

Re: don't waste your money 200 88

I couldn't have said that better myself. I personally use standard Autolite spark plugs in all my cars that did not come with platinums from the factory. In fact, my B230FTs don't run as well on anything "better" than the plain steel (copper core) type.

Re: don't waste your money 200 88

I basically agree with you folks about the platinum plus four stuff.

However, platinum and silver electrode plugs were developed for good

reasons and these types of plugs with 'normal' electrodes have run

very well in my turbo. As a matter of fact in the early eighties like

my 82 242 turbo they came stock with silver electrode plugs. Very expensive

and they are resistor plugs which is something I avoid. Your car will run very well on the copper core supers which volvo changed back to. I think in 1985. I run the Beru Silverstones in my turbo now and they are very good. The car runs great and when they need service I clean, regap, and they are fine. I actually haven't worn a set of them out yet. I have run them for 50k mi so far. I clean them once a year.

Dave , What wrong did you notice with the resistor plugs?

I just switched my 82 to resistor plugs (Bosch RW7DC) just last week.

The owner's book recommend W7DC.

On the other end the owner's book for my 1991 recommend the resistor type.

Interesting...

Re: don't waste your money 200 88

Hello Roland,

The earlier 240s have resistor ends for the spark plug wires. The later

cars use resistor plugs because the ends don't have resistors. The

resistors are used to prevent radio interference. Because they are resistors they reduce the power of the spark a little. I avoid them

because I don't want anything that will reduce the spark to my plugs. Also

the distributor rotor already has a resistor in it for this purpose so

you don't have to have the plugs or ends be resistor type. I haven't ever

had any radio interference with my setup. I use the Magnacore wires with

non resistor Beru Silverstone plugs.

The main point to keep in mind is that you don't want both. You don't want

to use resistor plugs with plug wires that also have resistor ends. The

resistor ends are identified by having a metal shield around the plug

connector and if you look at them carefully you will see written on them

the Ohms value of the resistance. Usually something like 10k ohm. The

plain rubber or silicone ends of the wires are non resistance type.
