Stock Radio Code 900 92

I removed the stock stereo some time ago and installed an aftermarket unit. Now, I am going to sell the car and would like to put the original stereo back in. The only problem is that I need a code to get the original radio to work. There appears to be some type of anti-theft system that is activated when the unit is removed from the car. The dealer told me that they would charge an hour labor at $75.00 per hour to find the code. That sounds like crap to me. Can anyone tell me a better way to deal with this. Thanks!

Re: Stock Radio Code 900 92

Drew is right, this is dead easy and should be free. My wife got her number free from the independent garage she bought the car from, using the VIN number.

On the '94 anyway, entering the code is not obvious. You have to enter the six digits on the memory buttons, and then press the button ABOVE the one labelled "cd". If you do this wrong, ie press the wrong button, the darned thing locks you out for four hours!

This stuff should be in the car's manual if you can find it.

You are right, that is a bunch of crap and the dealer is trying to rip you

off big time. Every dealer in the nation should do this for "FREE". If you know where the car was originally sold, they will have the car info on their database, and will be able to give you your radio code instantly. All you have to know is the name of the original owner. If you can not find out where it was sold, look at the serial number on the radio. They can contact Volvo NA, and get the radio code for you. The use the serial number on the radio itself. This is a free service, go to another dealer that is not trying to scam you. I had this done about a year ago, and the front desk clerk got my code in less than 30 seconds.
