1990 740 Turbo Wagon? 700 1986

Hi all - I found a great wagon for sale today - a 740 turbo wagon with 82k miles, great body, runs well, no leaks, for $6500, and the guy will take my 1986 740 in trade. What offer should I make? I was thinking of offering him $3000 for the whole thing, with my trade in. Am I asking too much?

Your car is worth maybe $1000 to him...he has to fix it, inspect it, resell it an make a profit.

$6500/82k miles for a 90 turbo is good price (if in great condition) so I'd say you'd be doing well to get the car for $5500 including trade.

That depends on the condition of your old one. Offer him your car plus a little less money than you're really willing to spend, because he will most likely counter offer for a little more money. Then you counter-counter offer somewhere in between....then he counter-counter-counter offers, and so on.

Re: 1990 740 Turbo Wagon? 700 1986

I bought out my lease on a 92 turbo for cost in 1997. It was 5000 back then. Also, why would anyone want to trade a classic 86 for 1000 bucks. It has to be worth more than that as just a junker to haul dirty stuff around. I think a fair price would be about 4500-5000 for that car. Especially since it comes with NO warranty from him. It would be different if you were buying from a dealer that had refurbished. Glad to help.
