B20E dimensions 120-130 69

A question

Just approximately, what is the length, width, height and weight of a complete B20E?

Thank you

Bob Melville

    Re: B20E dimensions 120-130 69

    Hi,

I had asked the same question on a different list (1800list) so that I could build a crate for shipping. A couple of the guys were kind enough to actually go out and measure. Heres what they found:

    ------------------------------------------------

    > Length from back of the block to tip of waterpump

    Including flywheel - approx 25"

    > Height from deepest point of the oil pan to top of oilfiller cap

including breather tube out of top of cap - approx 27"

    > Width at its widest point (where the starter mounts?)

starter to oil filter - approx 18"

    -------------------------------------------------

Hi: I measure roughly 16 in wide 23 in long, not including a water pump or

fan and 26 in high from bottom of oil pan to level of oil filler cap. add

    extra room for bracing ect.

    -------------------------------------------------

    Hope this helps,

    Steve

It's the same as a B18, with the exception of the crankcase

breather hose which is slightly larger. It will fit well

enough into your 122 that unless you look at the "B20"

cast on the side of the block you'd never know it wasn't

    a B18.

      Re: B20E dimensions 120-130 69

George: I'm about to close on a '63, all original 122S. In the event that the engine is toasted, will the 20 bolt in? Have you done the conversion, is there an increase in performance, and are there any hints, tricks, or 'land mines' that need to be addressed? Thanx!

        Re: B20E dimensions 120-130 69

Unless it has been SERIOUSLY abused it is probably not toasted.

But in answer to your question, yes, yes, and not really.

The crankcase breather hose has to be one size larger but

everything else fits. The B20 block is distinguishable from

the B18 block by having a few more mounting bosses (for alternator,

etc) but the ones for the older things are also there. (Also by

having "B20" cast on the side of it instead of "B18")

Everything bolts up fine. You can plug the injector ports

on top of the head with 7/8" soft plugs. Some say they will

blow out but I have been running them on B20s and B30s for over

15 years and never had a problem with one. I'm still running the

Bosch generator in my 66 122 wagon and it works fine.

Let gratitude season your Thanksgiving dinner!

I was just looking for something in the archives, and came across the weight of a complete B20F w/K-jet, which is said to weigh 330-340lbs. There was no mention of the dimensions.
