D-jet fuel pump testing 120-130 66

Hello. I was wondering how to test a D-jet fuel pump. I think the one I have is bad, because it doesn't work when I put it on my 1800, but want to be certain before I buy a new one. I only hooked up the electrical connections to test it. I can't imagine that the presence of fuel would matter, but you never know.

Thanks

If your pump sat with old gas in it for a long time it could

be gummed up. Gums are natural decomposition products of

gasoline. If you take the pump end apart, check to see if

you can turn the shaft. If stiff, a little bit of your favorite

penetrating snake oil and a lot of working back and forth may

free it up, then you can reassemble with cleaned parts and

new O-rings and it will probably be OK. Even with quite a bit

of wear to the little rollers it will still put up adequate

fuel pressure. Will naturally be more noisy.

    Justin,

You mean you pulled it, hooked it up to 12V, and nothing happened? The presence of fuel shouldn't matter. The D-Jet pump sounds different when run without gas, but still runs. I know this from running out of gas. I don't know how long you can run it without gas without damaging the pump, but it should spin when you put 12V to it.

Yes, 12 volts, but no turning going on in there. Sparks, though. I was afraid it would be dead. I got 2 with the engine, FI stuff I bought and they are both non-functioning. Ugh!

      Thanks for the reply.

Have you taken the pump section apart to see if it's rusted? You

might be able to free it up. If a pump's not stored with a little oil

        in it, rust sets in.
