luv my 245 except.... 200 87

That silly heater fan. I drove an f250 for twenty years and am fairly convinced that my sweet volvo wagon is the next logical upgrade to a pickup(durability). So the fords have abundant "passive" heat in that you don't even need a blower running while driving down the road to de ice a windshield. I am looking for the inlet on the ductwork of the fresh air intake on my wagon to which I dream of attatching the blower off an F250 circa '75 (size of a leaf blower). Possibly also just improving the flow through this ductwork. I guess I dont mind the job of tearing the console and interior apart but the replacement blowers I see at ipd and elshwere look so flimsy for a brick (3/16 shaft yikes). Anyone had luck improving "passive heat" in yer brick. TC

Hm... good luck wedging anything other than a Volvo heater fan into that little space behind the dashboard. The motor is certainly not the world's biggest, but it isn't too bad. They do push a lot of air around.

There's a different way to approach this, though. You could put an outlet fan in the back, under the floor/inside the right side rear panel where the little air duct goes to the outside. Naturally you'd have to modify it, but it would be quieter back there and would heat the entire car because it would draw the heat through from behind. That's just another one of my wacky ideas...

Volvo actually sold an optional fan for the wagon rear air outlet. Havenīt seen one yet, though. Guess you should have placed your order in the eighties if you wanted one...

I was thinking that the intake air for the heater/ventilation system might have an inlet somewhere up front I just have'nt found it yet. To that opening I am thinking of mounting an auxilary blower blowing in with it's own switch. Here in the NW the windows need warm air in abundance. Interesting about the cabin vents at the rear though I will investigate. Perhaps I will reinstall the blower from ipd (modyfied with oiler tubes running where lube can be added in the future) and a new core as well. TC

The intake is up front. It is the grilles on the cowl right in front of the windshield. If you turn the fan on, you'll hear the air being drawn through there. Make sure there aren't leaves in there (they get packed in pretty badly sometimes) because they'll restrict the airflow.

You have to dig them out with something. Or flush out the leaf shrapnel with a hose. It all collects behind the front wheels, so be prepared to have a stick to clear out the drain hoses for the cowl vents.

I used to have to do a yearly dig to get some of the leaves out of there. A couple of times I got little pieces through the inside vents of my old, long-gone 245.

Sounds like there's no way but to use water and wait for them to decompose enough to fit out the drains. Seems like every brick I've bought was kept in the woods, and gobs of leaves and seeds come out by on either side of the transmission hump under the dash. Maybe a piece of tubing that would fit through the vents adapted to the garden hose...or the air compressor...

How do you get to them and where do they go!?!
