The time has come to sell my 91 245 M47.
I thought I would post the car here in case any of the folks who have helped me keep the car running might be interested...
1991 Volvo 240 Wagon
5-speed M47 transmission
209k miles
Solid Stage 1 runner.
Second motor w/ custom head.
All go no show.
All high mileage maintenance performed to make the car Stage 0.
(The only mechanical issue is a slight leak from the rear differential seal.)
Performance upgrades made to make the car NA Stage 1.
For example: Custom head with VX cam. Upgraded suspension with IPD swaybars, braces and Bilstein HD shocks.
All parts and work documented back to 2001. I even know the shop who sold the car to who I bought it from.
Over $12,000 invested in parts and shop work since 2003. I have all the paperwork
to prove it.
Very solid NA runner. The car drives completely different than a stock NA 245 with auto tranny. The car loves third gear on back roads. Tracks great at speed on dirt roads. Will climb up highway hills at 70mph in 4th gear. With HD shocks and heavy duty springs, the 245 will carry a nice load in back, with power to move it. The car is a tool, not a show piece.
I just made a 200 miles trip. A mix of 90mph highway and stop and go city driving. The car worked fine.
Rear seat removed with a custom deck in it's place. This provides storage space where the folded seat once was, and makes for a more solid platform than the seat. With this deck modification I was able to use the 245 as a camper, and sleep in the car. Plus the deck works like a pickup truck bed to haul lumber or whatever.
All high maintenance work done. AMM, driveshaft carrier bearing, all suspension bushings, radiator, hoses, Steering rack, tie rods, O2 sensor, most all relays, etc.
BAD THINGS
Lot of dings, scratches and rust spots.
A variety of "creature comforts" not working/missing; i.e. no map pockets, no AC, no rear window defrost, no passenger side seat heater and the radio does not work.
A lot of the small things wrong with the car could be easily fixed, I just never bothered to...
Scruffy interior, since I treated the wagon like a truck. Cracked plastic pieces, rear panels dirty and cracked, etc.
A lot of the front plastic panels are not in place, but I have the parts.
A "minor restoration" could be done to the interior easily enough. No rips in the headliner.
Trip odometer not working.
The steering wheel is slightly out of alignment, but drives and tracks perfectly straight.
(I installed a new steering rack and tires then had an alignment. I then installed new a steering coupler..)
There are probably other small things I'm missing. The car is not perfect.
Speedometer is fast by 7mph due to 15" wheels.
There is an intermittent high pitched sound that comes out of the dash. It only happens at a highway speed of 70mph or more, and on a windy day. A crosswind causes the noise. On a calm day there is no noise, and at lower speeds there is no noise. The source of the noise is a rubber seal behind the dash for the fresh air vent.

If, as Mr Tool posted...
Mr Cracker had simply listed this in the classified section... none of this would have happened.
IMHO, in posting it here, he opened up an invitation to Comment as You See Fit.
He asked for it.
Your posting of the photo's ...meh...don't take on any blame
"it was in mint condition in my sleep...dodging the problematic way you feel"
cheers

So sorry.
Mr Cookie
is that better.

Hi CB,
Thank you and Mr. Nabisco.
Though I like Mr. Nabisco's 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon. Sort of neat and custom. His 240 Wagon looks much nicer than mine. I imagine people will want it through here or through his craiglist post. Though I'll guess needs some work if unseen rust can be reversed. He has it at a price point that interested Volvo folk may haggle with him on price.
I like how he has it at stage one tuning and such. I'd like to do mods like Mr. Nabisco completed on his 1991 240 wagon. Just 50 more horse power and same ft-lbs torque with doing the +Turbo stuff and burnouts like on the sillier facespacebook RWD Volvo modding pages / groups. (Some folk seem to take great pleasure doing the +Turbo stuff on a well-neglect 240 that needs help, and next the 240 auto or M47 fails, they break a welded open diff, and summarily junk them. I don't get the appeal of destroying a 240 or any RWD Volvo.)
Yet all three of mine do the speed limit just fine and get good mileage and burn really cleanly. I dunno what it would be line to drive a mild modded 240 Mr. Nabisco's 240. I'd not driven a RWD or FWD Volvo in so long I forget the sensation. Also where do you drive it? Take some track time and pay for it? I drive like a little old man with many empty car spaces a plenty ahead, lest I'm late for one more failed job interview. I'll bet his 240 runs really well and the parts and mod list seem really comprehensive and sensible.
I also post OvLov's in the RWD forum here I find on the craigslist, yet 164s or Amazons or a good 240 just as an FYI that seem a good find. Or V8 Volvos in the V8 forum (why V8 swap when one is for sale someplace). How Mr. Yount can get great mileage in his 282 (242 + V8) as good or better than the 92 well-tuned redblock ...
I guess I'd like to be able to buy it if having a garage and three other cared-for 240s with new paint and tires where it is a mere maintenance schedule (vigilant though we need to be to care for them with anticipation).
The last two days I spent replacing the rear muffler on the 1992 with the iPd sport exhaust with the Turbo rear muffler.
The exhaust on the poor neglected and abused 240 GL thing was secured at the manifold - header pipe union and the (as you sit inside the 240) right side rear silencer shackle hanger. Amazing no failure while driving from Boise to Spokane. I missed it during inspection before purchase else I would have mended it before embarking. Yet rehung the exhaust. Should have used better and new clamps and anti-size on the unions down stream from the cat. I also like to use conductor connections between the exhaust and the unibody to slow exhaust corrosion. Not that time with the cracked windshield pinch weld / pan rust work in 2008 or so.
Got it on yesterday. I bought angle grinder service from a nearby repair shop. The muffler piece was stuck to the pipe end that secured to the old rear Starla 240 Turbo silencer as was the tail pipe stuck to the old muffler. New Starla rear silencer muffler rubber shackle hangers too. All from AutoZone and cheaper than FCP and iPd. AutoZone seems to have some notion of service at the store and the website. They have good service info that shows up in web searches though you need a login to see it.
I'd hoped to replace the flimsy three studs at the front of the cat with durable hardware. They are rusting away on the 92 GL. Also want to replace the other clamps and the one hanger where the front of the front resonator would be. They are all well rusty.
Oh, it kicked my duff taking it apart and install. Now twice I've had to have help working on an exhaust. Though I have no torch or angle grinder.
What's better than three 240s? Four or more. Just like three RWD Volvos? Than add a 164 or Amazon or 142?
Wow, she's really lovely and a more lovely voice. Great harmonies! Wish they turned on the holiday lights hanging on the shelves behind them.

If you like Star Trek the original series (TOS)
StarTrekContinues

(The actor portraying Kirk is the voice of Edward Elrich in both anime adaptations of Fullmetal Alchemist, my all time fave anime series. Second series named Fullmetal Alchemist" Brotherhood complies with the manga comic.)

Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II (Later episodes- another actor portrays Kirk))

Thanks. Hope that helps. Sorry to go on so. Someone buy Mr. Nabisco's 245. The asking price does not seem at all unreasonable for all the work he put into it.
I'd like to such work to mine like he did to his wagon. Adding a Turbo to a non-Turbo 240 engine like some seem to with 740 / 940 Turbo parts seem to beg for problems. Though there are posts of people adding Turbo to a Rex Regina stock 740, and also to a stock K-Jet 240. They use the cold start valve to add fuel during boost. Crazy. I'll keep mine non-turbo like Mr. Nabisco does.
I also like his Mr, Nabisco handle! Makes me imagine Shredded Wheat.
So, why can't we have additive-free shredded oats? No sugard / sweetener / salt.

I was expecting this kind of ignorant comment.
First, go find yourself a 91 245 M47 with less than 250k miles on it... Go ahead. Find one.
Not an 80s M46. A 90+ M47II with ABS and beefier front springs.
Then do ALL the high mileage maintenance on it.
Then add IPD bars, springs, Bill HD shocks, etc.
Then drop $1000+ on a ported/polished head with VX cam.
Yes, I actually have $12k worth of documented work/parts done to the car.
If you drove this car on back roads and up a highway hill you'd be singing a different song.
Drives perfectly.
My guess is you drive a slow high mileage automatic early 80s 244 with bald tires and an oil leak.

Bla bla bla.
If you don't want to buy it then just shut up.
My 245 is better than stock. Faster. Stronger. Better handling. Can carry a larger load. Is fully maintained. And it will easily drive another 100k miles.
But oh, the body and interior are beat up so I should just send it to the junkyard...
And if you actually read the text you'd know I have the backseat to put back in.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Go drive your slow sedan to the mall.
People on this forum are so ignorant of proper mods and upgrades.
Oh, and please don't bother responding to this post... I'm never coming back to it.
Nobody on this forum will ever buy my car. My plan is to store the car until Spring. Fix all the problems and find a buyer, but certainly not on Brickboard.
Again, thanks to all who were kind enough to help me keep the car running over the past 15 years.

That looks like a NY State Trooper Magnet. Esp in the Taconic and the NY Thruway.
Not at all a conservative (upper)middle class, Classic Volvo that your shetland sweatered, pipe smoking, Bard College sticker on the hatch window, just driving to my upstate weekend house, no need to pull over that one, Volvo Wagon....by any stretch of the (Trooper's) imagination.
Big bucks off the ask price....LOL
