In tank fuel pump brands - FCP any good? 700 1987

hi farmer- you ask a good question . 5 years ago i had to do this job; the intanker was intermittent and the fuel sender float device was shot(gauge didnt work). looked around for the part. was shocked when dealer tried to clip me for $1k for the whole job. almost as shocked as inspector louis renaud was when he discovered gambling was going on at ricks cafe americain. bet not one youngblood here knows about that. anyway shopped around not only for price but also for quality. bought parts for $175(gaskets, special hose, special bung nut removal tool, vdo sender unit and intank pump ac delco. r and r took me about 4hrs on my 92 245. followed instructions here from brick board, mostly art ben. job difficulty was about 2F on the 5F scale. be very careful about removing the unit from the insertion hole and inserting the new unit. dont let the float ball pop off and float in the tank- tuff to fish out. also be careful to get the right short hose that goes on the unit. this is critical since this hose lives immersed in gas on both sides in the tank and is available at parts stores where they know wtf they are doing.dont use std fuel injection hose. gauge and pump have worked fine since. think gates makes the hose. think i only want to do this job once every 20 years. btw kitty grey is probably the only one who remembers louis renaud. regards oldduke
