Flametrap S90-V90

I have losing oil either through leaking or burning it. I just found out that my 97 V90/960 has a flametrap ! I am assuming that could be the cause of my oil problem, anyone else have any similar problems?

When I bought my 95 855 6 years ago, it was recommended here on the Brickboard AWD/FWD forum to toss the flame trap screen. I did so immediately when I serviced the the flame trap. Absolutely no issues from throwing the screen out. I suggest you do the same as the 5 cylinder engine is essentially the same engine as the 6 cylinder minus one cylinder. The engine is a modular design. My suggestion: Service the flame trap and toss the screen.

It would also be wise to follow Adirondacks's advice and either clean or replace the PCV system completely (breather box, hoses, EGR if you have one).

A plugged pcv system could be the cause of numerous oil leaks and oil consumption issues. If you haven't, I would switch to synthetic oil today. I have also cleaned the pcv system on our 98 V90 by pouring a quart of engine flush down the flame trap with the oil drain plug removed.
