Whining when car starts 1st thing in morning. 200 1987

So when I start this car in the mornings a loud whining comes from under the hood for about first couple of miles. I drive to work scaring the local kids at bus stop as I pull up to stop sign. I'm sure it may be a belt, but how do I tell which. Any ideas

If it is not the belts it could be a failed or slipping harmonic balancer. Draw a visible line across both metal pieces and run the engine while it is whining. If the line separates the rubber between the metal has failed.

Great advice to everyone even if there is no noise. Liquid whiteout is my choice.

I just had a new harmonic balancer put on in feb this year. So I hope that is not it

Try getting your head under the hood after the cold start and see if you can locate the noise. I'm guessing power steering pump.

Typically, accessory drive belts don't whine - they squeal.

Spritz water on each belt while the engine is running. When you find the offending belt, it will stop squeeling, briefly.
