Rear light assembly 200 1984

So...I was looking for a rear light assembly for my sedan to replace the one that is faded. A lot of them available on eBay at good prices but all of them specify 1985+ or 1986+. It looks to me like they are identical to the 1984 model. Does anyone know for sure? Anything different in the connections perhaps?

As for the brand, I've read a lot of bad about the Uro ones (weather proofing, durability...). How about the ones that are made in Estonia? Better or the same?

Reporting! That will probably help someone.

So I bought and received the "Estonian" taillight assemblies from eBay, for $100 plus shipping for the pair.

They are made for 86+ and I installed them in my 84.

The main difference is that in 86 and above, there are fog lights, so the rear brake lights are relocated from the top inner position to the bottom outer position, in the same place as one of the running lamps. It just gets brighter when you push on the brakes.

I preferred the original layout with the brake light as a separate lamp (I believe the newer cars have a 3rd brake light as well), so I swapped the circuit boards from my old assemblies to the new ones, since they were working fine, although looking a bit old and corroded, especially one of them.

On the right side, where I had the original Volvo/Cibié assembly, I also swapped the outer bottom bulb assembly because the one from Alvo (the Estonian brand) didn't make a good contact with the old circuit board. It probably would have worked alright though, but I swapped them.

On the left side, where I had a Valéo replacement already, I couldn't swap them as the tabs were a bit different, so I kept the new one in. It worked better on that side for some reason.

In the end, it all works fine, and the new assemblies look nice and clean. There's no telling how long the lenses will stay nice in this Arizona sun. Hopefully for a good while.

That also allowed me to notice that my left side brake bulb was out, despite the fact that I didn't not get a bulb warning on the dash.

Also, my reverse lights don't appear to be working (no difference between new and old assemblies, and old and new circuit boards...

I have to check the reverse lights again tomorrow because it seems that they are wired through the driver light first, then go to the passenger side, so I suppose that if there's an issue on the driver side (where I still had the old assembly/bulb when I tested), it could also take out the newer one on the right side.

      We'll see.

I've decided to go ahead and order the "Estonian" ones from eBay, for both sides. The OEM are just way too expensive. I'll report back when I receive and try to install them. There's really no alternative at this point. Anything from the junk yard would be even crustier than what I have.

I thought the earlier ones had the Clear ( Backup) lense in two sections where the later ones had only one clear lens for the Backup light.

Look at the bottom of this page.. does yours light au as this one does?

My lights look like the ones that are on eBay. 6 sections, one clear lens in the middle above the red reflector.

That being said, it looks like I'll need to replace both, as while the right side one is faded, the left side is not but has some cracked lenses and insulation.

Both of mine are marked as "Made in France", with the left one being clearly marked Valeo. That one is the one that is more cracked but less faded, looking newer overall. Perhaps replaced more recently by a previous owner.

Perhaps replacing both at the same time will make the difference a moot point?

Thanks but not really. They are talking about a 1989 or 90 and discussing "early late" and "late late" lights. I'm looking for the difference between those for sale online (advertised for 86-93) and the 1984 lights.
