Should I replace solid motor mounts with hydraulic ones?? 700 1986

My 1986 740 GLE station wagon has the solid motor mounts installed...I replaced them about 4 years ago. The problem is that I think they are transmitting engine vibrations to the frame and I hear a growling sound from the front end while sitting in the cockpit. If I were to replace the solid mounts with hydraulic ones, would the engine vibrations be more isolated and reduce the noise?
I need to know soon as I will not have access to a lift after this summer.
Thanks,
el raidman

I've found the the round rubber mounts to be plenty smooth.

Do you still have the round transmission mount? I seem to remember that Volvo had a service bulletin to change to the later (1987+) square transmission mount if vibration was an issue. Maybe someone else will remember something on this.

For what its worth my 87 has hydraulic mounts, and I still get vibrations. Before , and after changing them. I never have been able to figure out the source of the vibration.
If the mounts you have kept the vibs away for 4 years, maybe the answer is to get a better quality mount(not scantech), instead of changing to a different type. Besides, I have regular(non hydrualic) mounts in my 240 and they work just fine keeping vibs away.
Just my opinion.

In my 740(250,000 miles) above idle, the vibration is soon forgotten.

Good luck.

How smooth are you expecting?
I changed the mounts on my '86 745T to 164 mounts a few years ago. They're still holding up.

Did you use the hydraulic ones or the solid rubber ones?
Thanks,

164 (B30 engine) mounts are solid rubber.
Also used a 164 mount for the M46 transmission.

You know, of course, that you'd have to change all the bracketry, too...

OOPS, then I better leave well enough alone. Also the rubber ones are MUCH cheaper than the hydraulic ones.
thanks for the heads up,
