Thanks for those pix, Paul. The one using the rallye gauges in an original panel is rather interesting.

Do you happen to know a source for the small circular lights?

Thanks
Bob

"Do you happen to know a source for the small circular lights?" A lot of British sports cars used stand alone warning lights. I saved the turn signal and high beam lights from a Sunbeam Alpine which was being scrapped. They have the interesting feature of flipable lenses--thick section for nightime--thinner for daytime. Old Saab 93&95 models (c. 60's, 70's) also used the round chrome bezel deep dish warning lights---and the tach from the 4 cyl models has red and green highlights similiar to the Volvo Rallye dash. -- Dave

Looks fun, but I don't think it will fit into a 122 dash opening without cutting the dash some. Maybe fit into a 544 opening?

I have some 240GT gauges that are about the same size as the 140 rallye gauges. I tried them in a 122 dash opening for the instrument cluster, and I know I would have to cut the dash to make them fit.

Yeah, that's what I was pondering looking at it. It wither has part covered up in a 122 dash, or it has an open gap at the bottom in a PV. I'm thinking it might fit a PV.

Very interesting.

And, heh, I was half thinking about bidding on this, might have gone to 300, 350 or so.

But great googly moogly the auction closed at 1500 euros, or ~$1,970.

Ahem. That's a little more than I was willing to pay. Was there a car attached to them? ;^)

John

Too rich for my tastes too. Interesting concept nevertheless. I'm inclined to make my own.

Any guess on the diameter of the "Rally" guages? Not likely to find many of those, since they are pretty rarified anyway. You've had an 1800, right, what was the diameter of the tach and speedo (ballpark guess is OK) I sense they are too big.

I do not know what happened, when I posted this, there were 10bids on the item at $212.00 with 5 days left. Yesterday it said ended, with a buy it now price of Euro 1,500.00 ?
In any case, as far as I can tell, the gauges follow the Volvo/European format. The tach and speedo are 80mm gauges and the fuel and temp gauge are 52mm. Well within the confines of a 544/122 cluster.

Hi All
Did you notice that the dates on the various gauges were 1971? That was after they stopped making Amazons and PV's.

The gauges appear to be the same as the 140 rally and GT instrument clusters, although without taking my cluster apart I cant verify for sure.

I think that this was a made-up panel to fit PV or Amazon and was not done by the factory.

Of course I'd like to hear other opinions.

Bob

That's exactly what it is Bob, as far as I can tell, and if you wanted to put one in your Amazon or PV you'd just collect the gauges for a few hundred dollars or less if you're lucky and make a faceplate out of alu or steel and away you go.

Years ago when I had a 122, I found a 142E in a junkyard (rusted to bits) with a rally gauge pack. I put it in my 122 by rounding the upper corners off. I forget if I had to fill in a blank spot under neath the panel or not, it was a long time ago.

Over a period of time, quit e a fwe bits of that 142E ended up on my '63 122 sedan. Radiator, engine, trans, driveshaft, rear axle, gas tank, gauges, seats. Probably a few other parts I can't recall. The 122 was pretty fun with a B20E in it - I did keep the SU carbs though.

Buyer's remorse 120-130

I once did a ground up on a Jeep CJ3B, including a complete new body. The dash was like a fresh canvas with no holes. I used all new SW gauges-tach, speedo, water temp, amp, oil pressure, hi low beam etc. The whole process including body, conv top, new upolstery, big gas tank, rancho springs, new rims and tires, red paint all came to about $5,000. Only a complete and uncreative idiot would pay this much for even this admitably attractive dash panel. Probably a government official or bank employee.
