I couldn't resist grabbing a brand-new ECU at my dealer's "Garage Sale" last year. The price was right, the sticker said "1985-89 B230FT, and I'd been reading a lot about the fickle nature of this component. I decided recently to take a closer look at the article - just in case - my 1988 765 Turbo is running just fine, BTW, after the engine replacement (whole 'nother story), and I find that the number on the factory sticker doesn't seem to come up in anything that I've read on the subject, here or elsewhere, save a brief reference in a fuel injection paper from Volvo UK. The number doesn't even appear in Zachary Zaletel's excellent document, referenced in dino's message in an earlier thread on ECU replacement. Here's all the info on the unit - can anyone give me hope that it'll work in my machine, or should it go back on the shelf. I haven't pulled the kick panel off yet to determine exactly which series is keeping my wagon on the road at present. All I do know is that it's the same one from before the engine change.
The unit is labelled "Jetronic", made in Spain by BOSCH, series # 0 280 000 591. Another number on this label is 3 531 107. The shelf/dealer's label reads FCU 5003765 1985-89 B230FT. The parts man, whom I've dealt with for 20+ years, assured me that this was the unit for my vehicle. It's just the "591" that's got me wondering. Any comments?
Thanks,
Garth.
