Wires from exterior drivers side door lock question 200 1986

This past weekend I replaced both DS & PS front door handles. I lubed up everything while I was in there and now all is good as new. I noticed that on the drivers side key lock looking from the inside, there are about 3 wires attached to the tumbler assy that are starting to look as frayed as my main wiring did before I replaced the gray harness junction on the firewall. I'm afraid that these wires insulation will rot away entirely and short out or the locks switch will fail completly. Any suggestions or repairs that can be made before problems arise? I didn't know there were any wires attached to this part.

Thanks for looking.

I just went through this also, the insulation on the 93 were also deteriorated. I coated the area with Shoe Goo glue, hopefully this will last awhile. Otherwise replace the harness for about $60. Dan

I'm near a pick and pull and got that harness for next to nothing a few weeks back. Nothing wrong with a used one in good shape. The part of the harness that wraps around the tumbler must be installed in the correct orientation so when the mechanical tab on the tumbler rotates when you use your key, that rotation causes the sliding slot in the plastic wrap to move and actuate/switch the central locking system.

you can remove these wires from the exterior door lock tumbler by undoing the black plastic clip which surrounds the tumbler by way of undoing the tab which sticks out (towards front of car i believe), and, fortunately, this seems to be of the flexible plastic variety
comes off and goes back on quite simply, and do not recall there being a small, hidden part to fall into door cavity
however, pay attention to the position of the sliding mechanism within the clip and that it goes back in the right orientation

the other wire goes into the interior door lock actuator which can be unclipped from the motor
