COOLANT LEAK, BUT NO DRIPS 900

I'm losing coolant very gradually out of the recovery tank, but there are NO visible leaks anywhere. Engine runs cool, good mileage, smooth idle. Scared of the thought of head gasket leaks, but oil is not milky, and the exhaust looks fine. Any suggestions?

FOUND MY LEAK AT LUNCH....HOSE THAT GOES TO THE BLOCK FROM THE COOLANT TANK IS LEAKING FROM THE TANK FITTING...ALSO NOTICED CRUMBLING INSULATION ON THE COOLANT SENSOR. IT JUST FLAKES OFF. tHE TANK ALSO HAS A BUNCH OF STRESS MARKS ALL OVER WHERE THE PLASTIC FORMS A JOINT OR CORNER. LOOKS LIKE I'LL NEED A NEW MAIN HOSE, OVERFLOW HOSE, TANK, AND SENSOR. HOPEFULLY THAT WILL FIX IT....CAN YOU BRIDGE THE SENSOR WIRES TO CHECK THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CIRCUIT??

BTDT with my 1997 965.

Got a new coolant tank and the little harness from my dealer. Since then I've learned that if I could have waited a few days the price from Borton Volvo would have been lower. Suggest that you check them out.

The new tank should have a new float inside.

Good Luck,

Bob

While inspecting, look for a white dried powder, on fittings and around the radiator. It could be evaporating before you get to see it in liquid form.

What year is this car?

96....I have noticed some white residue on the thermo housing, but I had replaced the upper hose earlier. Perhaps it is not sealing right. I'll check it.

Check under your floormats for the front seats. It might be your heat exchanger/heat matrix in the cabin which is leaking.

get a mirror and check the weep hole on the underside of the waterpump and see if it is greenish.

Inspect the ATF for contamination with coolant.Replace the tank cap.

Inspect the radiator tanks for dried coolant stains.

A slight coolant loss over time is normal, there may not be a problem.
