    taillight mystery 200 1988

rt.and lft. have different fuses.a 12 volt test light is the tool of choice for finding missing power (always check your test light connections on a known good 12 volt power source such as a light connector that is working).if you have power at the fuse, then check the bulb receptical,if no power there then work your way through the taillight connector,if no power going into connector then look for bulb failure relay (tucked up under the dash above your left knee,it will be red in color and about the size of a child's fist)check for power going in and coming out.
If you do have power at the bulb receptical and still no light, then check your grounds.
good luck, the bulb recepticals can give you a lot of trouble if they do not make good contact with both the bulb and the taillight.

right side bulb holder = white 200 1988

There's one white bulb holder in the set. It holds the right side brake light bulb. Bulb also serves as a tail light, lights up with the headlights.

That's a 2-filament bulb. Has 2 nubbin contacts at bulb base. Check to see they're not dirty or corroded. Holder has 3 contacts.

You mentioned you tested the bulb holder. Maybe you used a multitester for that? If not, get one. $10 for the lowest priced ones at a big box store.

Use it to test for voltage arriving at the contact points where the bulb holder sits, and for good ground there. Use it to test your bulbs. You don't need an engineering degree to do this but you might need to stretch your brain just a bit if you haven't used one of those meters before.

thanks for your response, Mr. Maintainer...
what has stretched my mind is why the left rear parking light operates normally when its fuse is pulled out. on my other 240 removal of this fuse means no juice on the circuit.
