I have nothing but respect for responsible gun owners, those who practice regularly and get certified annually for all of their weapons. The problem is that every schmuck can walk into a store and buy an M4/AR without knowing how to handle it.
Just because I have a permit to carry doesn't mean that I know when and how to use a gun. I know that there is no army about to invade my house, especially when it is cold outside. So anything semi-automatic is not needed. I pride myself in hitting the target, consistently, one shot at a time.
The only time I fired an automatic (Army), the target was at 75 yards. Optimal range for ten rounds per pull. Easy. But at 200 yards, almost impossible to hit a swarm of targets. Then it was just spraying lead and hoping for the best.
It's like a 16 year old buying a Corvette and not knowing that it won't stop or turn at 180mph. Lack of knowledge and training means other people will get hurt.
Let people buy guns, only after training and extensive practice and with a secure location to store the guns. That includes shotguns and derringers.
