Bill, Do a Goggle search on "Volvo fan recall" for more confirmations. If the metal module(about the size of a cigarette pack) on the fan shroud has an all shiney cover, that's the new style. If it's a black cover, that's a bad one. Every Volvo dealer should be on top of this. You need not be in warranty to get it replaced.
