check engine light after removing purple thingy

I did the city lights "upgrade" today with bmw parts and was successful, but it took hours and i majorly maimed my headlight wires with splices etc. regardless, i have a problem. while doing this operation i unplugged a purple ended wire that seems to run by the ecu. there is a link to a picture of it. i started the car and got a check engine light, and then remembered i unplugged the wire. so i went and plugged the wire back in. went for a test drive, and the car drove fine just like normal. came home and inspected the vacuum tree for a loose cap - it was fine. listened for any air hiss - none. car seems to be running fine.

did unplugging this thing screw my car up? i wont be able to read the code for a while, and so i wanna know if i can drive this thing w/o risking it getting hurt etc.
