I can't believe your "service advisor" suggested you ignore the oxygen sensor, regardless of how the car is running. The sensor is intregal to protecting your catalytic convertor and helping the ECM determine the best fuel/air mixture for both performance and fuel economy. One could argue if it's the sensor that is after the convertor then it isn't as crucial. I would have it replaced.
