This is scare tactic...creating fear in car owners.
I agree with the original posts, Dealers (does not matter if BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Volvo etc.) in general do not have good names. Why?
- focusing on making money rather than making customer happy.
- creating work for mechanic to do to create job.
While it is true that some dealers are very good, but this is rare.
Dealerships' main interest is in making money.
Independent shops can be as good.
I did all the work myself:
- brakes
- engine tune-up, plugs rotors, caps etc.
- oil change
- transmission flush
- brake bleeding
It is not that hard and I am an average DIY. Therefore, An independent mechanic with experience is as good as the dealer for routine care of the car.
The only advantage dealer has is the latest goofy software in the computer diagnosis. But how often does the computer fails?
