Upper engine mount bushing replacement. 850

buy the bushing from your volvo dealer...u need a 2/3 leg gear puller (see ANY decent tool shop - should be about 30 euros) using this u can simply push the old bushing out (dont need to cut it...)

to put the new one in get a set of wood cutting hole saws big enough to cut a disk about 1/2 to 1 inch larger than the hole the new bushing goes into...and a length of M10 studding (treaded rod) and some m10 nuts and some washers about 1" accross and big enough to go rtound the m10...

now cut two disks of wood (at least 10mm thick, more if u can!) and make a 'sandwich' on the rod of...two nuts, washer, disk of wood, thru the mount towards the wing of the car, through the bushing, disk of wood,washer,nut...

note you may want to recess the centre of the wooden rings to fit over the centre of the bushing and the bushing is eccentic and should be fitted with the arrow facing up...

now lube the bushing with your favourite no oil based lube and start tightening that nut..with a little care and patience (about 5 mins!) you can ease it straight in...

now you will be left with it being about 5mm shy due to it hitting the first disk of wood...so unassemble you clamp and use your hole saws to make a piece of wood weith a hole bigger than the bushing housing but smaller than the disk of wood and use this as a space to allow the bushing to have room to slide into...

rea ssemble and carefulyl draw the bushing further in...

total time should be about 20 mins start to finish...and tool cost about 50 euros, parts about 15 euros, and it can be doen on the car...the dealer quoted me about 100 euros if it took the brackets off the car just to push the bushing in...robbing gits!
