Mine does the same thing. I have done many things to combat the odor. It appears to be a common thing in this model/year 855. If I run the blower motor on high about a minute or 2 after I turn off the compressor, then the odor is not as bad. I think it comes from mildew on the condenser. By running the blower motor a while before turning it off, it dries off the condenser. I think Volvo has a modification that will make the blower motor run for about 5 minutes even after the car has been turned off. I believe this mod is to keep the car from smelling. My 2001 V70 XC blower motor does this.
