Keyless entry remote 850

If it's the Volvo Guard alarm then only things (in the UK) that can be changed are:-
horn (fixed/pulsed), panic alarm (on/off), re-activation (on/off), acknowledgement light (on/off), and acknowledgement sound (on/off).
These can be set by an authorised workshop with the appropriate equipment.

I couldn't tell you offhand what frequency the remotes use.
Similar to garage door openers - yes in the fact that you have a transmitter and receiver. But that's like any radio system.
