Buy Volvo or Mercedes V70-XC70

Hi to all: Thanks for the helpful replies to my previous post. I'm still on my very confusing quest to buy a new vehicle. Have looked at highlander, pathfinder, pilot, Tribute, Buick Rendezvous. All quite pricey.

So, now I'm looking at Mercedes. What do people think about a used 2002 E series wagon? I find it nicer looking than the Volvo but it'll come in about $46000 for 46,000 km on it. Same price as the new V70 I'm looking at.

Do Mercedes require as much maintenance as I've experienced on my '98 V70 R AWD? I want a relatively maintenance free vehicle. My volvo has nickeled and dimed me to death since I got it.
