Help please....Air pump

I'm quite depressed. My check engine light came on, and I took it to my mechanic. He checked out the codes, and its the air pump. Cost $340 plus $100 for the valve, plus a couple hours of labor..... total $600..

What can I do!?? Any advice appreciated :)
