S80 T6 Starter problems.....human error S80 1999

After two weeks in a non-Volvo shop (run by ex-Volvo Techs), they have only concluded that the starting problem seems to stem from intermittant lack of both spark and fuel injection at the time of starting. Does anyone have any idea where to look for a link that would intermittantly stop both fuel and spark? Computer?
