After reading some more of the posts here it looks like my problem may be the lower engine mounts. Apparently the harsh grinding / growling noise on acceleration from a stop, and the diminished turbo performance can be caused by the engine block metal hitting the metal below because of worn mounts.
The really odd thing is that this all started happening after the UPPER mount bushings were replaced. So I figured the IPD polyurethane upper mounts were to blame. I will have my Volvo mechanic look over my lower engine mounts too. If the lower engine mounts are OK, then I will have him replace the bushings with the original rubber bushings.
Has anyone else had problems with their lower mount? Was the car noisy/harsh on acceleration?
