Air Guide problem 850 1994

I have no idea if I have that part or not. When the first air guide I had ripped off, all that came off was the big plastic piece, so that's all I've replaced (2x now). Is it not possible to use the clips without this piece? (not that I want to go back to the dealer a 3rd time and spend a truly ridiculous amount of money).
