Yeah, I'm not sure what year they put these lock buttons in, but my car is the same way. I guess it was the Swede's interior designers descision to put no lock buttons in. Here's my theory: The manual reccommends not to lock your car while driving, because it makes it harder to get out in case of an accident, remember Volvo=Safety. They say only to lock doors when you park the car, hence no lock buttons, they felt it wasn't necessary. I don't miss them, just another Swedish quirk.
