As the subject says, I have a 1993 850 GLT, the last of what I like to think of a a First Generation 850. Most of you know that this is basically a freak in the world of Volvos, as it has numerous differences and faults that make parts a bit of a pain (such as headlight lens repair), and generally cause a few issues here and there (Four lugs, transmission...).
One other major difference between my car and the second generation models is the styling. It's got a few variations that some people like, some people do not. Personally, I like the larger headlights (and their apparent higher output), the "euro" tail fixtures, and some of the general styling touches. But one of the things I'd rather have changed are the front and rear bumpers.
At the moment, I have an opportunity to get a 1995's rear bumper for almost nothing, and the front bumper of a 1994 for cheap if I follow up on an offer.
While it might be a bad assumption, can I assume that the two versions of the 850 share similar mounting mechanisms, or am I completely and utterly wrong? Considering some of the other changes, I could very well be. From what I've seen, there are few, if any mounting points on the bumper itself, and most of the parts under the car show no difference between models of similar engine and transmission, so I'm led to believe that there would be no clearance conflicts. The only thin
Has anyone attempted this before? I'm in the process of fixing, upgrading, and generally refining the style of my car more to my liking. I am going to be replacing a number of front-end components, including the bumper, and would much rather have the car's work done in one long run (and upgrade the styling in the process)
P.S.: On this subject, are the tail light housings for the 850's the same size and shape? I've never really gotten a close look at them, but for some reason, they "feel" different in photos. I'd like to replace mine with the later housings, but would rather not spend the money and end up with useless parts.
Thanks,
-Andrew
