Fuel Additives 850

I recently bought a can of STP Fuel Injector/Carbeurator cleaner, thinking i'd put it in with the next tank (premium of course). My friend warned me not to because they tend to burn out your fuel filter, I've heard this before. Have any of you 850 owners used such additives, needless to say I haven't added it yet. And after reading my manual it said that the injectors are self-cleaning, so i'm all confused. So, tell me, have you used these products?
