in my case it was right-side speakers that were showing the symptoms you mentioned. accidentally found out that it was the volume knob that was defective. try fiddling with the knob and see if you can get all speakers to work. i even took out the unit, opened it and sprayed circuitboard cleaner stuff on the potentios in the back of the volume knob. this worked fine for a while but got worse. so i got me a used sc813 from ebay for about 50$ and replace the original unit.
