Clunk! when selecting reverse 850

Just bought a '94 850 glt wagon w/ auto trans. 2 days old.

"clunk" and jerk happen when selecting "reverse" position from "drive," "neutral" or lower gears. Doesn't happen going into reverse from "Park."

Car's always at full stop.
