volvo security system 850

i arm the security system by using the lock key, all the doors are shut. The light lights solid for 10 seconds and then begins to blink, however then the alarm doesnt sound if you try opening the door. Any ideas as to what i should look at to see what is causing this? The alarm did work at some point.
