Timing belt/replacement engine update 850 1996

They asked me whether there was some accident. The answer is no. They were perplexed, but I believe that this problem was a gradual one. Eight months ago, the dealer down where I live (the service manager is being VERY unccoperative) found a wear in the belt that indicated that it "jumped the pulley." At the time, I asked whether there was a problem and they said no, that all looked fine, and so they replaced the belt. I suspect that there was some kind of problem that got gradually worse, but what doi I know?!
