Looking for S80 input...... S80 2001

Hello Keefus:

I have a 2001 S80 T6 and really like it. Haven't had any problems to date. I became a little concerned when I saw all the posts stating how terrible and unreliable the S80 is. This has not been my experience. I think these forums are a good place for people to express their problems and I'm sure they are telling the truth, however, most people don't go to forums to tell how much they enjoy their vehicle. I've seen so many bad comments about the S80 that I want people to know they are not all bad. It seems the '98 and '99 models had problems but they seem to be taken care of now.

My driving is 70% highway, approx. 32,000 km a year (20,000 miles). The car is smooth, quiet and very comfortable. It handles well. Acceleration is powerful, brakes are great. Steering is good but light. I'd like it stiffer.

I previously owned a 1999 V70 GLT. It also was a great car. Almost bought an S60. It's a very nice car. However, unlike the S70 and V70, the S60 has much less leg room in the back seat. I'm 6' 2" and with my seat adjusted, it doesn't leave a lot of room for the S60 rear seat passenger. No problem with the S80, plenty of room. Althought the S80 is a large car, it doesn't drive like a big sedan.

My Volvo dealer in Oakville, Ontario is very good. The service dept. is very personable and professional. Both cars have been serviced there.

As to other cars, I considered Lexus and Infiniti. The new G35 is a nice car but I'm happy with my S80 T6.

Good luck.
Mike
