Hopefully, it is just some gummy stuff in there that you should be able to clean with contact cleaner or alcohol. If so, just keep doing what you were doing, you sound like you were on the right track.

As for buying replacements, sorry to tell you, but it's all or nothing. If you do need a new panel, you'll have to buy the whole panel.
