They're quite willing to sell me anything they can get away with; however, I want to make sure that i know what's already there not only for things like brake pads, but in case I am considering further suspension mods. This car left the factory as a police package and has a code which I think (from looking at the 850 plate data on the uk site) indicates it was built/completed at the Volvo "special vehicle" works. The special vehicle folks tell me to check with the dealer. The dealer here says it has a Canadian market code, and they can't tell me anything about it. Canadian dealer who initially marketed it is out of business. I don't want to order brake pads, which are due about now, and then find that it's out of service for a week because it needs something special due to oversized brakes, etc etc. Nor do I want to speculate on tinkering with the suspension or anything else until I know what it already has--if it came from the cop shop with their best anti-sway bars, etc, why mess with it. [I do know, from a recent emergency run to the hospital, that it handles the same--rock solid--at wellll over 100 as it does at 55, and that there is more speed I couldn't use due to traffic.]For that matter, I'm curious about whether the numbers on the data plate or ECU will tell me there's an R chip or the equivalent under the hood. I'm also pretty sure the dealer can find out easily, but isn't eager to tell me for fear I'll get parts elsewhere at a much better price.
