Didn't you pay good money for the repair?

why won't the mechanic fix it? He must have seen the error warning when he ran the car.

Suggest that you might talk to the better business bureau - or... you might tell him you will take your car to a dealer and bill him for the repair. Get an estimate from a dealer.

Lastly I love our '08, but a problem with the driver's window sometimes won't go down with a touch of the button - my dealer has programmed the problem away 5 or 6 times but it keeps coming back in a few months.

Perhaps it could be a programming problem.

I took a good look at my '08 XC 70 and could find no simple switches around the hood.

The latches are buried so I could not determine if there are any wires going to them - I think that there were wires going to a hood latch on our 850s

To me, it looks like one has to take a LOT of the front end apart to get at the latches.

Maybe Klaus will chime in.
