A have always spent one hour's labor to have my dealer do an inspection of every used Volvo I have purchased. They give me a written report.
The last car was a '08 XC70 - they found a leaking vacuum pump, and the rotors were rusty - the tech wrote it up as the pads were not in proper contact with the rotors,
The dealer that I was buying the car from installed a new vacuum pump, new front rotors, turned the rotors in the rear, and new pads all around and I still got the car for our agreed upon price! It was a Lincoln dealer and they did a nice job
One time I was buying a 1995 854 from my dealer and I had them give it to the service department to be inspected. The next day the salesman asked me if I would share the report with him as the service department would not let him see the report! He then offered to pay for half of the inspection so he could see the report.
The car needed a rear main seal - It was repaired and I still got the car for our agreed upon price.
As Judge Milian says on the Peoples Court - What appears cheap can then become expensive
In Sports and Exotic Car magazine said during a report on buying a used SL - a cheap Mercedes can be the most expensive car in the world!
