Why replace the upper shock mount? The stud on the rear shock just goes through a hole in a metal plate which is the mount.

I heard your advice before I replaced the shocks in my '02 but all it was was a metal plate. It was as if the mount simply filled a larger hole in the body metal. It was as if the body was designed to allow a larger shock to be passed through from above.

How could it wear other than rusting away?
